My debut novel, In Search of Mercy, won the Private Eye Writers of America (PWA) Best First Novel Competition in 2009 and was published by St. Martin’s Press the following year. It went on to win the PWA Shamus Award for Best First Novel of 2010.
Mercy is a noir novel that borders on horror. My second book, Shadow Menagerie, dives headlong into the genre with a tale featuring ghosts, monsters, and a twisted bid for revenge.
After Menagerie, I married, left my 13-year-tenured day job for another one, and became a dad. Somewhere in that whirlwind I published a short story in Mystery Weekly Magazine and continued to work on another novel. The result is Mortispectra, which brings a more cosmic flavor to my horror while further exploring my favorite themes: physical and moral decay, the past haunting the present, characters driven mad by their obsessions.
I currently live in Pittsburgh with my wife, son, and black cat Maggie. I enjoy reading (trashy showbiz tell-alls as much as Important Literature), hiking, and watching hockey and obscure movies. I will also complain about the flawed premise of Blaze and the Monster Machines to anyone who will listen.
